OCIE was developed by DSI in response to customer requests for a tool to improve and automate their access to, and use of, the reports produced by their MIS and accounting departments. The data storage capabilities of OCIE, by applying Sun Microsystems hardware and COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk) technology, eliminates the use of microfiche and paper from large and small companies and is a permanant means of archiving. OCIE makes report data, whether current or archived, easily accessible over the existing network.
